The Japanese alphabet is called kana, and each kana represents a syllable. Kana is written in two ways, Hiragana and Katakana.

The difference between Japanese hiragana and katakana is mainly in the way of writing and usage, and the pronunciation of both is the same.

Hiragana evolved from Chinese cursive script, and katakana comes from the radical of Chinese regular script. Hiragana and Katakana are meaningless by themselves. Only the combination of kana into words has meaning. Hiragana is used for general writing, and katakana is used to express foreign words and special words, etc.
